The app was built to include all necessary features needed for a booking app; check in/out, favourites, payments, general information, rewards and more.
Scandic knew they needed a guest friendly, easy to use app for mobiles as customers were expecting this. Even though, the purpose was never a technology solution, instead to start with the customer experience in mind and work backwards. Experience was always key. The purpose was to develop a mobile application that allows guests an easy way to interact with Scandic and at the same time Scandic to interact with them as a “connected customer”. An RFP was submitted for app development.
Scandic is the largest Nordic hotel operator with a network of about 280 hotels with 58,000 rooms in operation and under development in six countries. In 2019, net sales totaled 19 SEK billion.
https://www.scandichotels.se/Together with our partner, we conducted the pre-study as requested for the MVP to start with. Focus was rather a few and incredibly good functions than too many to start with. But long term the vision clearly included all features available to a mobile device such as Bluetooth, NFC, Mobile Key, and other new ideas. Hence it was decided early on not to go cross-platform and instead develop for iOS and Android natively.
A completely local team, working tightly with the customer in 2-week sprints achieved the goal as defined during prestudy and RFP. As more than just a Swedish player, the Scandic solution was built for size from the start to manage languages, currencies, and other local considerations.
